Beverley River Care Group
An incorporated community group established in 2025 dedicated to protecting and improving the rivers and waterways of Beverley, Western Australia.
Our Aims:
Raise Awareness: Inform the community and all levels of government—local, state, and federal—about the health, challenges, and significance of our waterways.
Collaborate: Work with individuals, schools, landowners, farmers, business owners, like-minded groups, government bodies and agencies to share knowledge, skills, and resources for the best outcomes for our waterways.
Conserve and Protect: Care for the rivers and waterways within the Shire of Beverley, ensuring they are preserved for future generations.
Our aspirations – Adding to previous work
‘a clean healthy river, lined by robust native vegetation. The pools are deep and shady, and alive with birds, and are safe for swimming. Weeds, foxes, feral cats and rabbits have been largely controlled and there is no rubbish. There are walking trails and interpretative information that provide pleasure and interest to visitors, without impinging on local residents. The river and its tributaries are fenced to allow careful stock management, and control fire hazards. The Beverley community takes pride and feels ownership of its section of the river and is involved in its recovery and ongoing care and management.’
These aren’t new goals, they’ve existed for generations and were written in 2002. Under the direction of the Avon Waterways Committee, with the support of officers of the Water and Rivers Commission, the Shire and local community undertook significant research and strategic planning to understand and address problems of local rivers. Roger Underwood of York Gum Services authored the reports which are at our Articles page. These words were their words, they are still valid today.
Let’s work on achieving them.
